Tea of the Universe

Tea of the Universe

A close up of an ice cube in a glass of iced tea. Not as much manipulation as you would think. The only things that I did in photoshop were slight levels and contrast adjustments and a bit of sharpening.

When I shoot a close up like this using the flash (and on the 990 it's right next to the lens) I crank down the flash by 2 stops and underexpose by a full stop. That way I don't blow out my subject with a big white blast. I also use slow-sync mode on the flash to allow the ambient lighting to fill in the areas that the flash doesn't cover. Also, in this case, I angled the shot to avoid any reflections from the glass.
