A Garish Tree

A Garish Tree

A while back - last spring - I was experimenting with using fill-flash stopped down by -2 and underexposing by a full stop as well on bright days. What you end up with is an evenly underexposed image that looks more like it was taken indoors with a backdrop than an outdoors daytime shot. In some shots the sky is almost black. One thing I wish I had done though is I think the shot would have been better had there not been the darker branches of larger tree in the background. I think it would have looked more outlandish if there had only been a monotone dark blue sky as a backdrop. Oh well, composition was never my strongpoint.

This technique allows you to really tweak the hell out of the levels and curves adjustments in photoshop and not blow out any of the image or posterize it too badly at all.

Once I get a camera that shoots raw I'm really gonna let fly with this style because of the extra range that raw offers.
