Deep in the Black Forest

Deep in the Black Forest

This image looks distorted, as if I warped the horizon while making this panorama, but it's not. That is a fairly typical road in the Black Forest and, if you read car magazines, these are the kind of roads that they are talking about when they test drive German cars. This part of Germany - including Freiburg - is really more like a fairy tale place than something real. Every day I look around and think that I'm visiting a Brothers Grimm book. Truth is, they lived about three hours from here. When they wrote their stories about dark woods, these were the vistas they were thinking of.

The building you see is a restaurant and it's really in the middle of the Schwarzwald (Black Forest). There is no town nearby but lots of people are out here mountain biking, hiking, touring in cars or on motor bikes.

It's a working farm and they only open the restaurant for the summer. It's an amazing place to have a beer and some food whilst enjoying the summer sun.
