Mort pour la France

Mort pour la France

Hartmannswillerkopf looks out over the plains of Alsace and is of obvious strategic importance. You can see the Rhine from here and, therefor, the German border. It's an area that had been disputed for hundreds of years.

During World War I, 30,000 soldiers died here at Hartmannswillerkopf. In 1915 alone, the hill changed hands four times. Amazingly after a year and a half of hard battles, focus shifted north and it was mostly forgotten. Few soldiers remained and the fighting mostly consisted of shelling entrenched positions.

Remembrance Day was a few weeks ago and I guess it would have been better to have posted this photo then. I think we would honour better those who sacrifice for their country if we jailed those politicians that send them into harms way.

George Bush, Dick Cheney, Tony Blair. Obviously their names are at the top of the list. And lets not forget that Harper wanted Canada to go into Iraq and is keeping us in Afghanistan.
