Lunch in Ötlingen

Lunch in Ötlingen

secret grafic

Since this is the south-western tip of Germany, on a quick day trip it's very easy to go to France, Switzerland and return to Germany before the sun sets. If you were racing, you could do it in two hours.

We, however, were not. Taking our time, we stopped in at a tiny village called Ötlingen and had lunch and a beer. This photo is very representative of this area: rolling hills, vineyards and farms and scenic small villages and towns.

Now, I've never been a big fan of wine - too much cheap crappy wine at parties when I was a teenager - but, now that I live in wine country, I have much more exposure to it. Some I like, some I don't. A friend of mine's father is the general manager of a grape growing cooperative here and he was generous enough to offer us a wine tasting tour. There were about fifteen different varieties to chose from and I have to say almost all were very good. I seem to like reds more than whites.

It should also be said that, until I came to Germany, I wasn't a huge fan of beer. Now, it's an entirely different story. Let's hope that it works that way with wine as well.
