Driving Through the Alps

Driving Through the Alps

All of the stereotypical images you have of the Swiss countryside are true. They're all there: tall mountains, tiny villages, alpine meadows, cows, quaint architecture, twisty roads, Julie Andrews. OK, the Julie Andrews thing is from Austria, but Switzerland really does look like they could have filmed The Sound of Music there.

EDIT: I now know where this was taken, it's near a small Italian village close to the Swiss border called Etroubles. What I wrote above is true but, obviously, it also applies to this area in Italy as well.

I have no idea really where this photo was taken other than it was somewhere between Basel (Switzerland) and Genoa (Italy) which is sort of like saying 'somewhere between Vancouver and Calgary'.

Literally, for the entire drive, I just stared out the window in awe of the scenery. I'd love to make the drive again, stopping for all of the good photographic opportunities but that would mean that an eight hour drive might take a few weeks. I'm not exaggerating, it's really that nice.
