Don't Forget I Love You
I took this picture of my mother the day she was told that she has Alzheimer's disease.
While I don't think that she ever will forget that I love her, there have been times this week when she did not recognize me. It is not easy for me and I can only imagine how hard it is for her.
She has been in the hospital for several weeks now and, before that, her cognitive abilities took several sharp downward turns over the past ten months or so. The diagnosis was not a surprise to me.
I needed to take a picture of her that tried to capture the confusion and isolation that this disease causes. I have seen those looks so often these past months.
