Not Just A Castle

Not Just A Castle

Oh, photoblog, how I have neglected you for the last month.

This might not be a photograph of the castle in Badenweiler but it is a shot taken from the castle. Turn around, and you have a nice view of the Rhine valley and, further in the distance, France.

The castle in Badenweiler kind of dominates the landscape but the town itself is really, really beautiful as well. Being in the very south of Germany and having many thermal baths, it's long been a getaway for people to rest and recuperate.

"Long been" is a bit of an understatement, in the time of Vespasian (~70AD), the romans built a bath here that can still be seen right next to the current Cassiopeia Thermal Baths and I doubt they were the first to use the warm springs.

Looking around online, I found this photo from around 1900 taken from almost the exact same spot. Clearly, not so much has changed in the last one hundred or so years. Well, in the village, not so much, but women's fashion has a bit.

My other photos of Badenweiler can be found in the gallery.
